Exclusive Interview: CHUCK star Yvonne Strahovski kicks ass to the end as the NBC series signs off Next up for the actress - I, FRANKENSTEIN with Aaron Eckhart By A.C. FERRANTE / Editor in Chief Posted: January 27th, 2012 / 12:19 PM For five years, Australian actress Yvonne Strahovski has kicked ass as CIA spy Sarah Walker on NBC’s action-comedy CHUCK. In that time, Sarah has went from a cold, closed-off spy, to a loving wife (and still stellar spy) to the show’s titular character Chuck Bartowski (Zachary Levi). While the ups and downs of CHUCK being on the bubble for its five years on the air has certainly provided anxious butterflies for the cast and crew during the run, Strahovski says the journey has been worth it. With the series signing off with a two-hour season finale tonight, the actress spoke with ASSIGNMENT X in this exclusive interview during NBC’s Television Critics Association party where she graciously spoke about the end and how difficult it was to hold back the tears filming the finale. In fact, she even admits to having a hard time getting through this interview without tearing up as well. ASSIGNMENT X: It must have been a relief to at least know that going into this season, it would be the final year so at least the writers could plan ahead for a change. YVONNE STRAHOVSKI: It’s great because they could write towards an ending and the writers can have a satisfying time doing it. We can all be satisfied that we put our hearts and souls into a real ending, rather than pretend writing something that would fit both an end and a new beginning, which we usually do. AX: How was Comic-Con this year – knowing it would be the last time the cast got to feel like rock stars together. STRAHOVSKI: It was really tough. I struggled on stage not to cry. I got off the stage … I had a moment. It was tough. AX: Was it rough going through the last few episodes, knowing you were getting closer and closer to the end. STRAHOVSKI: There was a lot of discussion on set about “is this the end?” There were a lot of believers that “no, it isn’t the end.” And there were other people saying “yes, this is the end.” There were a lot of high hopes on set that we would find out we would get the back nine. I was always on the fence. We’ve always been on the bubble, whether we get a midseason pick-up or end of season pick-up. For me, it wasn’t real until we got to the last one and I realized “I don’t think this going anymore – this is going to be it.” It really hit me on the last one. I cried every day. The last week was horrible. It was amazing, and spending so much time with everyone and I got to purge the last five years out of my system. It’s been very emotional for me. I’ve not known this country without this show in my life as my back bone. I’m getting emotional talking about it. Personally, it’s really an end of an era – five years of being in a new country, starting a life here and having this wonderful show and everyone behind it. AX: Whatever the wrap-up to the CHUCK story is going to be, I’m assuming the emotions you felt as Sarah, were similar to what you were feeling personally? STRAHOVSKI: We couldn’t get through some scenes. Zach and I shot one of our last scenes of the series and we made a decision – in this particular scene, we’re not going to cry. It would be better if this scene was non-emotional, but we just couldn’t help it. We were a blubbering mess on the day. It was really hard to compose yourself and not cry. There were so many things like that. I saw the editor last night who is editing the last episode and I said, “what’s it like editing this last episode?” And he said “I’m having to sift through a lot of emotional emotions from the actors that shouldn’t be in the scene.” It’s hard for them to cut it together. AX: Even Adam? STRAHOVSKI: Adam’s got a really beautiful soft side and I can tell he was reaching out as well in the last week. We all felt it was the end. AX: One wish you had told previously, was you wanted to have the story regarding your mother [Cheryl Ladd] resolved – when you got that script, it must have been a thrill. STRAHOVSKI: I really felt that it closed up the Sarah history for me as much as it could have. I was able to have a bit of a Sarah episode going back and finding out who her mother was, why it happened – it really put the pieces of the puzzle together. AX: Did you hear what your back story was, or did you not know until you got that script? STRAHOVSKI: As the season was progressing, I would find out bits of information. I could have asked about the last episode, but I chose not to until the very end. There were only so many scripts left and it’s nice to be surprised when you read a script. Maybe I didn’t want to know, maybe I was in denial of the end. I left it for as long as I could before I found out what the ending would be. AX: Are you surprised they didn’t explore Sarah’s mother last season? STRAHOVSKI: There was so much we have to cover with spy stuff – it’s hard to focus on something different and tie it in to the main storyline. AX: There have so many great guest stars too on this show. STRAHOVSKI: I was very appreciative of working with so many great actors. Timothy Dalton. Linda Hamilton. Cheryl Ladd was beautiful. Carrie Anne Moss I adore. Tim DeKay – loved him to pieces. We had such a great run and there were so many great people. AX: Since this was your first American series – did you start to look back on the journey that not only you, but your character went on these last five years? STRAHOVSKI: I think television is one of the greatest training grounds an actor can have. It’s unbelievably hard core and requires endurance levels like nothing else. The hours we work and the pace we work at and the emotions you have to nail in one or two takes, it really is something I had never experienced. I was so grateful of having the best training ground ever. I did three years of drama school, but that’s something else. Five years on a TV show, I feel I’ve grown a lot. We’ve all grown. AX: What did you appreciate the most about this final season? STRAHOVSKI: I think I appreciated the time I got to spend with the cast. I feel like personally I settled in more to living here and feeling like this was home, so therefore, I opened myself more to bonding with all my cast members. At this moment, Vik Sahay. who plays Lester, leans in to say hi to Strahovski. STRAHOVSKI: I’m talking about bonding with my cast members. SAHAY: Oh God. She’s lying to you. And just like that, Sahay exits with expected Lester timing. AX: Have you become more of a geek during the course of CHUCK? STRAHOVSKI: Yes, I think I’m more geeky. I’m obsessed with ANGRY BIRDS. AX: Have you gotten through all of the SEASONS levels? STRAHOVSKI: Yes, but I’m ashamed that I haven’t three-starred them all yet. I had a problem. I went to Bora Bora for a vacation and it wouldn’t download in Bora Bora. I guess I’m more open about my geekiness. I love HARRY POTTER and I’m not ashamed to say it. AX: What’s next after CHUCK? STRAHOVSKI: I’m doing I, FRANKENSTEIN with Aaron Eckhart. I’m flying away in a month and shooting in Australia, of course. AX: Is it a retelling of Frankenstein? STRAHOVSKI: It’s a modern day story. I’m not sure how much I can say. I think it’s going to have action, with a very strong romantic soul-searching component. And I have an accent, not American. I’m really looking forward to working Aaron. I think he’s fantastic and really respect his work and looking forward to spending some time in Melbourne. AX: Without giving anything away, is the finale a “finale?” Does it play like one and will fans be satisfied? STRAHOVSKI: I hope so. It’s a surprising turn of events. I don’t think it’s anything people are expecting. I wasn’t expecting it. It surprised me a lot actually. I think it’s going to keep people guessing until the very, very end of how this is going to get resolved. Crédits: Assignment X

Yvonne Strahovski and Adam Baldwin CHUCK Series Finale Set Visit Interviewby Christina Radish Posted:January 25th, 2012 at 9:21 amWith the two-hour series finale of Chuck airing this week, we can finally reveal that we were on set for the filming of that last episode, where we got to interview the cast and creative team about their experiences. While everyone was clearly proud of their work and time on the show, it was also obvious that they were sad to see it go. During the interview with co-stars Yvonne Strahovski and Adam Baldwin, they talked about how what is happening between Chuck (Zachary Levi) and Sarah (Strahovski) in the finale is going to weigh heavy on people’s hearts, how they’ve done some really gross and inappropriate behind-the-scenes pranks, how hilarious the teaming of Casey (Baldwin) and Morgan (Joshua Gomez) has been, and how they’ll be leaving with a lot of memories. Check out what they had to say after the jump, and be aware that there might be some spoilers: Question: Adam, in the series finale, what is going to get you, as an actor, and you, as Casey, to cry? ADAM BALDWIN: Casey doesn’t cry. I think Casey goes out with a bang, or so I’ve been told. It’s emotional. For me, I’ve been through series before where there have been endings that have been premature. With this one, while we would have loved to have had another nine episodes to get through the whole season, I think 91 episodes of a show that was on the bubble is a good long run. I feel satisfied with the course that we’ve taken. I’m grateful that we were able to get this far, so I don’t feel sad. I have all these people’s phone numbers and their emails. Chris Fedak said that you have no tear ducts. Is that true? BALDWIN: If he’d have written me to cry, I could have cried. You know the secret to crying on camera? You just think of something sad. It’s easy. Yvonne, have you really been one of the people who can’t stop crying? YVONNE STRAHOVSKI: I can’t stop crying. I cried every day, this whole month. I’ve just been crying, every single day. I’m going to cry now. It’s horrible. I cried yesterday when I did my last fight scene, ever. Adam, since you’ve been through this, do you have any advice for Yvonne? BALDWIN: Oh, she’s going on to bigger and better things. She’s got nothing to cry about. She’s got all of our phone numbers and emails. She’ll see us around, once in awhile, down the road. That’s the funny thing about Hollywood. Yvonne walked off a plane into a new family here and a new working atmosphere, and now she’s got her feet dug in, in Los Angeles, and she’s established and she’s going to be around for a long time. It’s really great to see nice people succeed. STRAHOVSKI: That was very nice, thank you. With the Chuck and Sarah relationship having been such an important emotional through-line in the show, were you happy to see how they dealt with that relationship for the series finale? STRAHOVSKI: I have to say that in the last episode, what is happening between Chuck and Sarah is going to weigh heavy on people’s hearts. There’s not a lot I can say without giving it away, but there’s a definite element of sadness that we have to go through, to get to the final moment. And then, there’s the funny stuff. Will it end on a happy note for the fans? BALDWIN: Come on, it’s a comedy! STRAHOVSKI: It’s a nice note, but it’s so hard. Yvonne, how do you feel about being the hot nerd on TV? STRAHOVSKI: The hot nerd? I’m a nerd, too? I don’t know. It’s so weird. They put me in a pair of high heels in the pilot, and I didn’t know how to walk in them. Now, I do. It’s just that I’ve always been a tomboy, so being thrown into the hot nerd category and the glam thing has been very interesting for me to swallow. BALDWIN: One of the most endearing things about Yvonne is that she really is just this rugged tomboy character from Australia who is able to embody that glam, geeky, nerdy thing. STRAHOVSKI: That’s very kind of you to put it that way. BALDWIN: But, she’s got this behind-the-scenes bawdiness that reminds me of Carol Burnett in her heyday, which is just lovely for a bunch of guys. Movie sets are mostly just guys, with a few ladies sprinkled in to keep us honest. STRAHOVSKI: I’m not really a lady. Let’s just say that much. BALDWIN: Yes, you are. STRAHOVSKI: Really? Oh, okay. Yvonne, if you were offered a Sarah Walker spin-off, would you be game? STRAHOVSKI: I don’t know. BALDWIN: If the price was right. STRAHOVSKI: Yeah, for $2 million an episode. But, you have more fun doing movies now, right? STRAHOVSKI: I don’t know. Look, this has been a long run. I won’t lie. The hours are very difficult on a show like this. I think we’re all a bit worn out. BALDWIN: We’re satisfied. STRAHOVSKI: We’re satisfied, beyond belief, with the hours. So, I think, right now, I need to take a deep breath and take a break and do something a little easier on the body. For me, [it’s especially difficult] with the fight scenes and everything. When you get sick, you’re sick for a long time. You just have to keep working through it ‘cause you just can’t rest up. I need to give my body a break, for a little bit. What is the best prank that went on, behind the scenes? STRAHOVSKI: Oh, they’re too filthy. Have you done any pranks to get them back? STRAHOVSKI: Yes, but they’re really gross. BALDWIN: They’re really gross. STRAHOVSKI: It’s inappropriate. What is the first thing that you want to do, when you have some time to yourself again? STRAHOVSKI: Sleep. BALDWIN: Go to the gun range. That’s what everyone wants to hear. Adam, how did you feel about Casey and Morgan teaming up, in the last couple of seasons? BALDWIN: [Josh] Gomez is hilarious to work with. He always brings the pizzaz to the scene. I’m just the quiet sniper button that gets to hopefully close it out, if the writers give me a good line, at the end. But, I just play off of him and roll with it. We were joking about putting together an Of Mice and Men production, off Hollywood Blvd. I bet that would be great. I don’t know if we’re going to get that up and running. But, could you imagine a Casey-Morgan spin-off with Grandpa Casey? Could you imagine, in Season 6, Alex and Morgan would have a little piker running around and Casey’s gotta come and be grandpa? Then, I would insist they kill me. Yvonne, what are you going to take away from this? STRAHOVSKI: A lot of memories. Do you have a favorite memory or episode? STRAHOVSKI: I love the Thailand episode, “Phase 3.” There are so many moments, though. I think, in particular, this season has been one of my favorite ones. We’ve bonded a lot more, knowing that it’s the end, especially the last month. We’ve been hanging out a lot more, as a cast, and just allowing ourselves the time to soak it all up before it all ends. Who’s the best actor you’ve had to kiss on Chuck? STRAHOVSKI: I counted how many people I’ve kissed the other day, and it’s not that many. It’s Bryce, Chuck, Daniel Shaw, Beefcake and that nerd guy, in that one episode. There’s no more than that. That’s it. Will your international fans get to see you make any appearances? STRAHOVSKI: Maybe. It’s possible, yeah. I’ll have to see how it goes. BALDWIN: Conventions are fun. I recommend them. What are you stealing from the set? Is there anything that you just have to have? BALDWIN: We may be gifted some things. STRAHOVSKI: Who said that? BALDWIN: I said we may be gifted some things. STRAHOVSKI: Can I get my Porsche? BALDWIN: You have a Tesla now. STRAHOVSKI: It’s a Lotus. BALDWIN: You like the Porsche better. What should we take? Some of the weapons. Some of the Reagan paraphernalia. STRAHOVSKI: We can’t take the weapons. I would take my gun, if I could, but we can’t do that. Not that I own guns, by the way. Just to clarify that. BALDWIN: I would take the Bible that’s sitting on the bookshelf. What’s your favorite episode, in this last season? STRAHOVSKI: My flashback one with my mom. BALDWIN: I liked the one on the train. STRAHOVSKI: The bullet train is good, too. Our D.P. made his directing debut on that episode. He did great. Cliquez ici pour accéder au site collider.com

Chuck Final Countdown: Adam Baldwin & Yvonne Strahovski on Saying Goodbye & Looking Ahead Posted by Mel on January 25, 2012 Back in December, on the second-to-last day of filming Chuck, ChuckTV.net was included among a group of reporters invited to the set to talk with the cast about the finale and look back at the previous five seasons. We’ll be releasing those interviews this week as we countdown to “Chuck vs. the Goodbye” on January 27. Adam Baldwin and Yvonne Strahovski talked with reporters together, and the bond we’ve seen between Sarah and Casey in the last couple of seasons is clearly there off-screen as well. Yvonne was trying to keep it together as she talked about the end of Chuck, while Adam was more pragmatic but very complimentary about his co-star. Adam thanks the fans Adam: First of all, I want to say thank you guys for all your support through the years. You’re a big part of the family and the reason why we continue, because you got the word out and you like the show and we all just really appreciate it. So thanks for sticking it out. You know, we were a bubble show and I think it was a good team effort to get us over that bubble. On crying (or not) while filming the final episodes Adam: Casey doesn’t cry. Who told you that? Casey, I think Casey goes out with a bang, so I’m told. It’s emotional. For me, I’ve been through series before where there have been endings that have been premature. This one, while we would have loved another nine episodes to get through the whole season, but I think 91 episodes of a show that was on the bubble is a good, long run, so I feel satisfied with the course of the taping. I’m grateful that we were able to get this far, so I don’t feel sad. I have all these people’s phone numbers, I have their emails. Yvonne: He’s a heartless bastard, that’s why. [laughs] Adam: Well, if you had written me to cry, I could have cried. You know the secret to crying right, on camera? Q: What is that? Adam: You just think of something sad. It’s easy. On the other hand, Yvonne, you’ve been outed as one of the people who can’t stop crying. Yvonne: I can’t stop crying. I’ve cried every day this whole month. I cried yesterday. I’ve just been crying every single day. I’m going to cry now. It’s horrible. I cried yesterday. I did my last fight scene ever. Q: Adam’s been through this. Do you have advice for Yvonne? Adam: She’s going on to bigger and better things. She doesn’t have anything to cry about. She’s got all the phone numbers and emails. She’ll see us around, once in a while. Yvonne: Once in a while. Yvonne walked off a plane into a family here and a new working atmosphere and now she’s got her feet dug into Los Angeles and she’s established and she’s going to be around for a long time. It’s really great to see nice people succeed. Yvonne: That was very nice. Thank you. I’m going to cry. Cliquez ici pour voir la suite de l'interview sur le site chucktv.net

'Chuck's' Yvonne Strahovski Teases 'Tragedy' for the Series Finale, Cast Would Do a Movie The actress tells THR what it was like to wrap on Sarah and what fans can look forward to as the series reaches its finale. 10:29 AM PST 1/20/2012 by Jethro Nededog “I think fans will be surprised where the story goes from this point on,” Yvonne Strahovski, who plays super spy Sarah, tells The Hollywood Reporter. “It surprised me when I picked up the scripts and read them. I didn’t expect it at all.” Strahovski, 29, wrapped Chuck on Dec. 7 and already has several projects planned. Aside from signing on to a racy Sobe campaign at its spokesmodel, she’s preparing to start production next month on I, Frankenstein costarring Aaron Eckhart and her movie with Barbra Streisand and Seth Rogen, My Mother’s Curse, will hit theatres in November. THR spoke to the Australian actress about what we can expect as Chuck reaches its finale and what she’s planning for the future.
In the new Sobe Campaign, you’re naked and covered with paint. What
was that like?
Your movie, Killer Elite, was just got released on DVD. and
you actually use your own accent. Does that make the acting easier
when you don’t have to concentrate on having an American accent like
on Chuck?
